Hello! I’m Marilyn aka “Piebird”, formerly of Cook Teach Grow which was an outlet for my experience with cancer. Formerly a professional chef and culinary instructor, cooking and baking during and after my cancer treatment were healing activities for me. They not only nourished my body (I can’t believe I actually put on weight during chemo) but sustained my morale and became the vehicle for my recovery with the support of fellow cooks and bakers as we explored cookbooks, my first foray into internet cooking comradeship. I still follow some of those bloggers as they cook and bake their way through recipes, but more so I am happy to have met and shared thoughts that began in the kitchen but branched out into their varied worlds.
Since then I kept thinking “I need to get back to work” but I also wanted to give myself time for more complete healing. As too many of us know too well, cancer treatment takes a heavy toll on body and mind. But it can also force us to focus on what is really most important to us individually. Five years later I can consider myself in fortunate cured status, am retired but stay super busy (how did I ever have time to work?), have a grandchild with another in the oven, and love my grammy status (who would’ve thunk!)
